James Reed Level

Jim Level, of Springtown, Texas, was born on June 19, 1932 in Burkburnett, Texas, to the late Newel and Emma Ruth Level. He passed away peacefully at his beloved farm on August 28, 2018 with his devoted dog by his side.   Jim was a proud graduate of Paschal High School and then went on to attend Texas Christian University on the G.I. Bill after serving his country in the Air Force. He was a patriot and deeply devoted to his country and proud to be a veteran of the Korean War.   After college Jim got involved in the Credit Union industry. He worked for the Texas Credit Union League as a Sales Consultant for 37 years and has been credited with helping form over 200 Credit Unions in those early years. After taking early retirement from the League, Jim went to work for FLS Services as Regional Vice President of Sales where he continued working with Texas Credit Unions until retiring in 2005, after more than 46 combined years in the industry. Jim believed in the mission of Credit Unions and people helping people, he loved the industry as a whole and certainly left his mark and made so many dear friends along the way who were his colleagues and clients.   Jim was part of a large and loving family. He was preceded in death by his beloved siblings, Newel Level, Jr., Stanley Level and sister, Donna Dawson. He is survived by his loving sister June Robertson who resides in Richardson, Texas. Jim is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and cousins.   Jim was a loving father and has 4 devoted children, his son, Kyle Level and his wife, Jeana; his two daughters, Amy Level-Hearn and her husband, Dave and Julie Farris and her husband, Matt and his step son, Trey Ligon and his wife, Anne. He was an awesome Papa to his grandchildren, granddaughter, Madison Level, and grandsons Luke and Landon Farris, Carson Hearn and Jason and Zac Ligon. His former wife of 22 years and Mother of his children, Martha Edwards and her husband, Ray, enjoyed a close friendship with Jim over the past 15 years with their blended family. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Baby and his two horses, Hope and Dolly.   Everyone that knew Jim knew he loved his ‘Farm’ as he would refer to it. He loved everything about it and once he retired he loved tending to his cows and horses and mostly he loved passing on his love of the land to his kids and grandkids. From tractor rides, cookouts, picking peaches, and trips to feed and count cows, this place was definitely his happy place and part of his legacy that his family will cherish forever.   Jim was a life long fan and supporter of youth sports in the little town that he so dearly loved, Springtown. He served many leadership roles over the years within the Lion’s Club, School Board and Athletic Booster Club. He volunteer coached not only all of his kids in Pee Wee basketball, but he continued on for many years coaching too many kids to count. He was an avid fan of all sports, especially anything involving the Springtown Porcupines and TCU Horned Frogs. And once he had grandkids, he became their biggest fan and encouraged and coached them any chance he could.   Jim’s nickname was ‘Reverend’ because he always had a story for you and they were legendary. He just loved people and especially loved making them laugh. He left a big mark not only on his family but on so many others that knew and loved him. He leaves behind many dear friends who became like family. We take comfort in knowing he is in heaven now and reunited with his loved ones and his Savior and for that we are blessed and grateful.   Friends and family can pay their respects at the memorial service, to be officiated by family friend, Kelvin Miles, on Wednesday, September 5 at 1:00 p.m. at Hilltop Family Church, 1227 Cottondale Road, Springtown, Texas.
