Service: 10:00 AM, Saturday December 12, 2020 at Whites Funeral Home in Azle. Interment: 9:15 A.M. Friday, December 18, 2020 at DFW National Cemetery, Grand Prairie. Visitation: 9:00 AM until service time. Joe was born on October 6, 1969 in White Settlement, Texas to Joe Don and Mary Katherine Helms. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 1988 – 1992 stationed in Mayport, Florida on the USS Saratoga CV-60. He spent the rest of his life with the privilege of being able to see the county as an over the road truck driver. Joe was one who had the ability and common sense to do or create anything he wanted. Making his own models, riding bikes, motorcycles, and even airplanes at a young age. He was operating farm equipment when he could not sit on the seat and touch the pedals, so he would stand up in front of the seat. His biggest dream was wanting to fly, but just didn’t ever get the opportunity. His hobbies included camping, music, NASCAR, concerts, and dancing. Above all his favorite was spending time with family, especially his children and grandchildren. Joe was raised and believed strongly in God. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Katherine and Sam Stephens & Inez and Marvin Helms. Survivors: Parents, Joe Don and Mary Katherine Helms; brother, Michael Helms; Godbrother, Jess Ray; partner, Varina LeeAnn; daughters, Heather and Fiancé, Kyle Sexton; Lyndsey Dutton and husband, Josh; Kaleigh Helms; son, Zachery Helms; grandchildren, Braden Delrie, Chaslyn Cragg, Bree Sexton, Kinzley Jones, Colton Dutton and Corbin Dutton; and numerous extended family and friends. Pallbearers will be; Michael Helms, Zachery Helms, Kyle Sexton, Josh Dutton, Justin Gutowski and Johnny Simmons.
