John D. Campbell, Jr., 83, of Weatherford, passed away on April 12, 2017 in Fort Worth.A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017 at First Weatherford United Methodist Church.Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Weatherford United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 301 S. Main Street, Weatherford, TX 76086 or CPS Rainbow Room, P. O. Box 251, Weatherford, TX 76086.John was born December 30, 1933 in Waco, TX, the son of John Sr. and Lillian Campbell. He grew up in Ft. Worth, attending Paschal High School before graduating from Hondo High School. He attended Arlington State College.John's billfold continues to hold his Certificate of Service in the Army of the United States. John married the first love of his life, Lola Diane Skipworth, in a spur of the moment decision on Christmas Day in 1956 in Fort Worth. After leaving the Army in 1958, John worked for the postal service. He sold real estate for a number of years, starting as an associate and then opening his own office, building and selling homes and developing subdivisions in Southwest Fort Worth, Saginaw and Aledo. He was the Homebuilder of the Year in Fort Worth and Tarrant County in 1980.John and Lola had three boys. Lola passed away in 1988.John married the last love of his life, Deanna June, in 1992. Their combined family's five children gave them 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Papa and Nanni rarely spent time apart from each other.He loved his family and his country, served his community, and was a beloved husband, father and mentor.John was a member of First Weatherford United Methodist Church. He was an active volunteer for Child Protective Services and Meals on Wheels.John was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy Bryant; his first wife; and two grandchildren, Caroline and Evan Campbell.Survivors to remember him include wife, Deanna; sons, Scott and wife, Gay; Clint and Peggy; Rick and wife, Roxana; Dr. Marty Buchanan and wife, Deena; daughter, Venessa Buchanan; 12 grandchildren, Ian, Emma, Lauren, Jordan, Crystal, Parker, Sophia, Elaine, Greg, Paige, Nelson and Harris; and three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Weston and Zoey.
