Johnnie Merck Wright, 86, passed away Thursday, November 5, 2020, in Weatherford. Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at Springtown Church of Christ, 316 Church St., Springtown, Texas 76082. Interment: Newsom Family Cemetery, Weatherford. Visitation: 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church prior to the service. Memorials: In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Delta Kappa Gamma, lota Chi Chapter of Weatherford and Foster’s Home for Children in Stephenville. Johnnie was born November 13, 1933 in Field Creek to Mary Morgan and Earl Merck. She graduated from Azle High School in 1952 and married R. Robert Wright, Jr. on November 10, 1951. She attended Weatherford College and graduated from Texas Wesleyan in 1978. Johnnie received her Masters of Education from the University of North Texas in 1984. She began her teaching career at Fort Worth Christian in 1977 and later spent 21 years teaching at Azle High School. During that time, she was selected at Texas State Business Teacher of the Year and served as Sponsor of the Business Professionals of America for students and served as President of the Texas Career Technology Educators of Texas. Johnnie served as President of the local Museum Society and served on the American Cancer Board. She was active in Parker County, serving as Election Judge from 1979 to 1994. Johnnie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and daughter, Judy Ella Wright. Survivors: Son, Weldon Leigh Wright; grandchildren, Zachary Leigh Wright and wife, Victoria, Robert Alex Wright, and Gemma Ella Katherine “Kate” Wright Webb and husband, Nick; great-grandchildren, Bobby, Jesse, Monty, Poppy, Gemma, Eli, Asa, Latham, Zoe, and Wolfgang; brother, Gene Merck and wife, Linda; sisters, Betty Russell and husband, David, and Nancy Kramer and husband, Charlie; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
