Larry Mason Lugar

Larry M. Lugar, 81, passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2018. A graveside inurnment will be held at a later date. Larry was born October 1, 1937 in Marion, Indiana to the late Garl “Short” and Nina Lugar. He graduated from Sweetser High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves and also worked for Sears. He worked for 20 years at Sears and obtained the title of Auto Center Manager. In 1982, he opened a Goodyear Franchise in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He left the tire and auto business and opened up an ice cream and candy store on Myrtle Beach. The business was wiped out by hurricane Hugo in 1989, but Larry went on to rebuild it. Larry retired in 1996 and moved to Texas where he enjoyed his own piece of paradise on Eagle Mountain Lake. In his spare time, Larry enjoyed softball and was on his church league softball team. He also liked to go camping with his family and loved watching his grandson, John, at racetracks. He will be missed by all who knew him. Survivors: wife of 55 years, Martha Carey Lugar; daughter, Lori Vining and husband, Robert; grandchildren, Sarah Vining and John Vining and fiancee, Hadassah; brother, Billy Lugar and wife, Velma; sister-in-law, Marilyn Hopkins and husband, Phil; brother-in-law, James Carey and wife, Jan; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
