“Aim at the heavenly and earth is thrown in. Aim at the earthly and you'll get nothing" - C.S. Lewis Larry Searcy, of Weatherford, Texas, was taken home to heaven on Friday, June 5, 2020, while surrounded by his family. He was a loved husband, father, and grandfather, but his number one love was his Savior, Jesus. He was born in Fort Worth, Texas to Ronald and Bonnie Searcy on December 19, 1957, and was preceded in death by his parents and survived by his wife of 43 years, Karen Edwards Searcy, of Santo, Texas, and his sister, Kay Gouge, of Weatherford, Texas. He was a graduate of Weatherford High School in 1976, and earned an Associate’s Degree from Weatherford College in 1978, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Christian Studies in 1980 from Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas. Larry was a licensed and ordained minister in Baptist Church ministry for over 40 years. He served as youth pastor at Harmony Baptist Church and FBC Cross Plains, and Senior Pastor at First Baptist Church, Horseshoe Bend. He also led and served at several camps and Christian schools around Texas including Harmony Christian School in Weatherford, Community Christian School in Mineral Wells, Liberty Christian School in Argyle, Camp Copass in Denton, Lake Brownwood Christian Retreat, in Brownwood, Lake Tomahawk Baptist Encampment in Livingston, Panfork Baptist Encampment in Wellington, and Big Country Baptist Assembly in Lueders. Larry also spent many years in the commercial and residential construction industry. In the last few years of his life, he was a loved and respected Home Inspector in the DFW area. He is also the founder of the Santo Victory Garden, a community garden that was planted to feed local families in need of fresh fruit and produce. Larry met Karen Edwards at Camp Copass in Denton at youth camp in 1977 and they were married on March 3, 1978. They have led, taught, and served together for over 43 years. They have three children, Christopher McClain Searcy, married to J.J. Searcy, of Argyle, Angela Kay Smith, married to Tommy Smith, of Frisco, and Laura Ann Weaver, married to Chris Weaver, of Santo. They also have eight grandchildren, Abigail Claire Smith, Mary Jane Searcy, Emma Kayte Smith, Faith Ann Weaver, Christopher Caden Searcy, Julie Charis Searcy, Jackson Gaiter Smith, and Eli Matthew Weaver. There will be a viewing on Monday, June 8, from 5 – 7 p.m. at White’s Funeral Home in Weatherford, and the Memorial Service will be held at First Baptist Church Santo at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9, officiated by Rev. Chris Weaver, Rev. Tommy Smith, and Dr. Chris Searcy. Pallbearers are Tim Gouge Sr., Tim Gouge Jr., Jesse Patterson, Matt Weaver, Scott Maughan, Derral Foreman, Marvin Baucom, and John Smith, Sr.
