Laveta Gale Linehan, 88, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2018, in Weatherford. Laveta was born September 30, 1930 to O. F. and Ella Smith Cummings in Floyd County, Texas. She attended McCoy Elementary School, Floydada High School and Wayland Baptist College. In 1969, Laveta married Barney Fred Linehan. Laveta worked at Floyd County Hesperian Newspaper, County Agent’s office in Floydada, civilian personnel at Camp Roberts, California and 35 years at General Dynamics in Fort Worth. She always enjoyed her work. Laveta traveled extensively with her husband, Barney, in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe and the South Pacific. Laveta accepted Christ at the age of 13 at Friendship Baptist Church in McCoy. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Weatherford, the Open Door Sunday School Class and the Women's Missionary Union. Laveta was a fifty-year plus member and Past Matron of Azle and Weatherford Eastern Star Chapters; Past President of Twentieth Century Club of Weatherford; American Business Women's Association; Board member of Weatherford American Cancer Society; former volunteer at Campbell Hospital and a member of Women and Newcomers' Club. Laveta was preceded in death by her husband, Barney, as well as her parents, and two brothers, Troy and Foster. She is survived by her special niece, Carla Linehan, ‘the daughter she never had’, and her husband, Charles; son, Hamp and his wife, Cathy, and their sons, Charles, Christian and Andrew, and Albert Linehan, and his wife, Barbara, and their family; several Linehan nephews and nieces, and their families; sister-in-law, Elena Cummings; cousins, Debra & Carlos Dupler, Evelyn and Frank Cossey, Helen and Jack Keller, Joan and Deryl Wieser, and Sue Camper; and many friends and neighbors.
