March 4, 1926 — December 11, 2019

Margaret Dyfain Horn went home to her Heavenly Father on December 11, 2019. Services - Monday, December 16, 2019, 2 pm, Brock Baptist Church, Brock, Texas. Interment: Brock Cemetery, Brock, Texas Visitation - Sunday, December 15, 2019, 5-7 pm, Whites Funeral Home, Weatherford, Texas. Margaret was born on March 4, 1926 in Brock to Harvie and Retha Jones as the fifth child in a family of nine.  She grew up in the Brock Community and attended Brock School where she played basketball and graduated in 1944.  On November 11, 1944, she married Trevel Franklin (Shorty) Horn, and over the next 17 years the marriage was blessed with three girls.  In the early married years, Margaret and Shorty moved around the country wherever construction work carried them.  They made Brock their permanent home in 1955 and built a house just south of the Masonic Lodge.  In 1967, Shorty died and Margaret had to manage her household by taking on various jobs such as running the community grocery and gas station to raising a few cows to sell.  She also bought land and designed and built houses in the small subdivision of Granny B Road, and in later years she worked for John's Greenhouse.  Margaret loved her family, community and church.  In the early 70's she and a handful of community members organized and set the foundation for the Brock & Dennis Fire Department.  Because she lived so close to the fire house, she also became the chief driver when there was a fire.  In 1992, the new Brock & Dennis Fire Department awarded her with a plaque for 26 years of service to the department.  As one of the founders of the Brock-Dennis Community Center, Margaret served on the board for 22 years from the beginning of the center in 1993 until 2015 when she could no longer physically serve.  Margaret became a member of the Brock Baptist Church in 1967 and was an active member and dedicated steward of God's word.  She taught Sunday school for 25 years, served many years as GA leader, worked in VBS every summer and was a faithful choir member.  She centered her life around her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Margaret's love and devotion for her family was unwavering.  She never missed any of the activities in which her children or grandchildren were involved.  Her dedication to her family was evident from her presence at all of their functions even to the point of having to be carried down the steps in a wheelchair to see her last grandchild play in the state boys basketball tournament in 2013.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvie and Retha Jones; husband, Shorty Horn; brothers, Gene, Jack, Donald and Marlin; sisters, Laverne Massie Hughey, Wanda Fleming, and her baby sister. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Kenneth Smith, Debby and Sherman Hudson, Melissa and Danny Southern; grandchildren and spouses, Ray Smith, Clay and Amy Smith, Ali and Aaron Cole, Joshua and Trisha Hudson, Justin and Taryn Southern, Tiffany and Blaine Galbreath, Lane Southern;  great-grandchildren,  Hunter Smith, Kiernan Smith, Anson Cole, Austin Cole, Rylie Hudson, Kallee Hudson, Baylee Southern, Levi Southern, Jaxon Southern, Gunnison Galbreath, Bristol Galbreath; sister, Patsy Cummings; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.  She is loved and will be truly missed.
