Mary Belle Murrow Buckner McCullar, 97, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 22, 2020 in Oakley, California, surrounded by her family. Her remains will be interred beside her husband, Dave McCullar, at Memory Gardens of the Valley Memorial Park in Weatherford, Texas. Mary was born at home in Waynoka, Woods County, Oklahoma on September 18, 1923. Her parents were Lionel R. and Lillie May Spafford Murrow. She was the fifth of seven children, who all preceded her in death. Mary was raised on a farm in Oklahoma and she was known to be quite a horsewoman. Mary and James Clarence Buckner married on January 1, 1942 and were married for 26 years. James (Jim) joined the Air Force and the couple traveled extensively through the United States and Panama Canal Zone. After they married, Mary graduated from Waynoka High School in 1943. Jim retired from the Air Force in 1966 as a Lt. Colonel. As a military wife, Mary learned to play Mah Jonng and enjoyed the game very much. Mary graduated from Cosmetology School and from Executive Secretary School. She became a legal secretary and spent 18 years working for Caltrens, District 2 in Redding, California and as a secretary for the State Offices of California. Mary married Dave Mack McCullar on October 16, 1971 in Vacaville, California. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dave “Mack” McCullar on October 20, 1999; siblings, Violet Morse, Wayne Murrow, Daisy McGolden (who died at 100 years of age), Georgia Rose McCray, Arbutus North, and Sanford Murrow (who died two weeks before Mary). Mary is survived by her son, Jerry Buckner and wife, Dr. Brandi Buckner; daughter, Keri Star Ramsey; son-in-law, Allen “Al” Onstead; step-sons, Mike McCullar, and Dan McCullar; step-daughter, Mary Syms; grandchildren, Shana Peterson, Christopher Bradley Ramsey, Piper Leigh Ramsey, Corey Robert Ramsey, Jeffrey Daniel Onstead and wife, Esther, and Dax T.S. Mitchell and wife, Jamie; great-grandchildren, Tabor Barbee, Makensie Barbee, Kieran Alan Ramsey, Connor Maxwell Ramsey, Heather Star Ramsey, Oliver Blue Onstead and spouse, Walter Alan Onstead, Hunter Mitchell, Hallie Mitchell, and Harlowe Mitchell; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and extended family members and dear friends.
