Mary Alice “Granny” (Garvin) Butler Brooks, 89, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 in Fort Worth. Visitation: 3 – 4 p.m. Saturday, June 3, 2023, South Main Church of Christ, 201 South Main Street, Weatherford. Funeral Service: 4 p.m. Saturday, June 3, 2023, South Main Church of Christ. Private Burial. Alice was born August 21, 1933 in Salesville, daughter of Willie “Bill” and Lucile Lillie (Hopkins) Garvin. She will be remembered for her giving nature, and her strong faith in God. She spent her life helping others. Alice was a long-time member of East Side Church of Christ. Alice is known throughout the community for her cooking, especially her pecan pies, buttermilk pies, and homemade candy. People would come from miles around to the Decatur Annual Swap Meet to buy her candy. She was an avid animal lover, from goats to llamas and all animals in between, Alice loved them all. She and her husband Larry were involved in the Central Texas Studebaker Club. She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Charles Raymond Butler Sr.; brother, Curtis Garvin; sister, Joy Shewmake; and son-in-law, Jim Bob Cook. Survivors include her loving husband, Larry Brooks; children, Charles “Ray” Butler (Linda), Clarence Randall “Randy” Butler (Darlene), Alice Elaine Bradford (Jeff), and Mary Jane Cook; grandchildren, Tabitha Boardman (Jared), Branden Charles Cook (Lindsay), Lezlie Dieslin, and Cliff Davis; great-grandchildren, Emery Alice Cook, Parker Warren Cook, Breckyn Boardman, Zayn Boardman, Lacy Uhyrek, Raynee Davis, and Cash Davis; sister, Lucille Holder; sister-in-law, Margie Garvin; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family members and friends. Alice touched countless lives over the years. Of all of her roles, “Granny” was her most prized title, and she was that to not only her family but the entire community.
