Dovie Mirl Garner Springfield, beloved Mother, Mamaw, great Mamaw, & great-great Mamaw, age 103 years 4 months, 26 days, of Mineral Wells, TX passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 surrounded by family.Service: 2 p.m. Thursday at White's Funeral Home, 101 N.E. 4th Ave., Mineral Wells, 76067. A visitation will be held one hour prior to service time. Interment: 2 p.m. Friday at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Big Spring, Texas.Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army or charity of choice.She was born on January 25, 1914 in Colorado City, TX to Charlie Houston & Florence Ann Ford Garner. She married Melvin Henry Springfield on September 4, 1935 and had many happy years together until his passing in 1991. She spent time every day reading her bible.  She instilled her love for Jesus in all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was not only beautiful inside and out, but had a talent for creating beautiful poetry to suit the occasion.  She always included a poem in her birthday cards to children and grandchildren along with a $5 bill until the recipient turned 18.  Then she considered them grown.Mirl spent many years serving the children of her communities as school bus driver, cafeteria server and her final service to children was spent at Weatherford College serving as dorm mother for the college students, where Weatherford College honored Mirl and her husband, Henry by naming the college dorm “Springfield Hall.”The family would like to extend a special thanks to Carla Cobb, Shannon Spoon Bell, Shawna Collins, and Loretta Fulbright.Mirl was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Henry Springfield; parents, Charlie Houston & Florence Garner; siblings, Robert, Ruby, Lillis (Bill), Pearl (Pete), Charlie; son, Jerris Springfield; and grandsons, Donny Springfield and David Springfield.Survived by: daughters, Vonna Mae and husband, Carl Wyrick, and Teresa Ann Lusk; grandchildren, Jimmy (Leslie) Springfield, Terri (Ricky) Jungmann, Larry (Kim) Springfield, Rocky (Hilda) Massengale, Drew Massengale, Kelley Massengale, Kay Lynn (Travis) Bridges, Kathy (Forrest) Massie, Allan (Bubba) (Kathy Jo) Lusk, Craig (Rebecca) Lusk, 37 great-grandchildren,  and 43 great great-grandchildren.
