Mary Elizabeth Strickland, 92, beloved mother and friend, went home to be with her Lord Monday, December 16, 2019. Visitation: 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday, December 23, 2019 at White’s Funeral Home, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford. Graveside Service: East Greenwood Cemetery, Weatherford. Mrs. Strickland was born December 24, 1926 in Little Rock, Arkansas, daughter of Luke and Lela Jane (nee: Talton) Evans. She grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas but moved to Weatherford, Texas over 20 years ago. Mrs. Strickland retired after 31 years of nursing as a senior grade LPN at St. Vincent Infirmary. She was a member of the National Council of Negro Women and the Black Nurses Association. She was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church in Little Rock for many years and more recently of New Hope Baptist in Weatherford. She was an inspirational writer, avid reader and loved music. She loved Sunday School and Missions and was a strong believer in the power of prayer. Mrs. Strickland loved her family with all of her heart and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Otis A. Strickland, Sr.; and precious son, Otis A. Strickland, Jr. She is survived by: Son, Kasib Tauheed Bilal of Little Rock; daughters, Ruth East and husband, Ronald, of Little Rock, and Lydia Abdullah and husband, Khalil, of Weatherford; 19 grandchildren; and many extended family members, church family, and friends.
