Visitation: 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, December 14, 2024 at White’s Funeral Home Chapel in Springtown, Tx.
Interment: Saturday, December 14, 2024 in the Springtown Cemetery.
Born in Weatherford, TX on August 24, 1939, Peggy always had a smile on her face and never met a stranger.
Peggy is preceded in death by her husband Don Gilliland; parents, Tom and Luola Cross; and brother Larry Cross.
She is survived by her brother, Tom Cross and his wife Sylvia; sons Gary Gilliland and wife Debbie of Southlake, TX and Michael Gilliland and wife Dana of Trophy Club, TX; along with her cherished four grandchildren: Spenser, Colton, Ryan and Stephen and four great-grandchildren.
Peggy grew up in Weatherford and married Don Gilliland in Springtown at his parents house in 1957. They moved around the country early on when they were married and eventually got to go to Germany with the Army. While there they were able to travel to many parts of Europe which really piqued her interest in travel. Peggy kept detailed picture albums of all her trips.
Peggy loved the newspaper. She worked for the Fort Worth Star Telegram for over 30 years starting as a bookkeeper and working her way up to managing the entire credit department. She was president of the Advertising Media Credit Executives Association and made many lifelong friends with those at the Star-Telegram and other newspaper associations.
Peggy had lots of hobbies from riding motorcycles to any kind of arts and crafts you can think of. She was very skilled at oil painting with a focus on tremendous landscapes of mountains and streams which happened to be the places she loved to visit. She also was an avid woodworker and would cutout all types of patterns for characters, flowers, Christmas ornaments or anything else you can think of and paint them. As matter of fact she would paint on just about anything she could find. She had a saying “that if you stood still too long, I am liable to paint you”.
Peggy loved to travel especially with her family and friends. They visited all the places she went when she was younger on many trips to Europe as well as Hawaii, and the Caribbean islands. She loved being with her family and creating new experiences for her grandchildren.
Christmas was her favorite time of year, where the spirit of the season and the gathering of family brought her immense happiness. She always had a Christmas tree up in her house since she was usually making hand painted ornaments from wood cut outs or painting Santa faces on gourds.
She will be deeply missed, but her legacy will live on through the love she shared and the lives she touched.
Rest in peace, Mom
