Philip Henry Briggs, Jr.

August 29, 1957 — August 31, 2022

Philip Henry Briggs, Jr. entered this life on August 29, 1957 and entered eternal life on August 31, 2022. He was born in Fort Worth and lived most of his life in Texas. Philip pursued his Master’s Degree and worked in various churches leading worship as Minister of Music. He then moved to Kansas City, Missouri and became Platte Woods United Methodist Church Minister of Music. After retiring from church ministries he moved to Paris, Texas and accepted a job as Director of Musical Theater and Choir at Paris Jr. College. Teaching young adults was a passion of his and he loved his years working with students. One of his biggest accomplishments was leading the production of Les Miserables along with his colleague, William Walker. Philip retired from teaching in May of 2016 and moved back to Fort Worth. He later settled in Azle to be closer to his daughter and her family. Philip enjoyed many things in life. His greatest accomplishment was being a father and grandpa. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing, and grilling. He was an amazing cook! He loved to sit outside in cooler weather in front of a fire pit and just talk and talk for hours. Philip loved his family and spent a lot of his time with his parents, Phil and Jennette, his daughter, Tara, and her husband, Justin, and his five grandchildren. He made many wonderful memories with his family and friends during his time on earth and he will never be forgotten by the people who loved him. Philip is preceded in death by his son, Sean Briggs; and his father, Philip H. Briggs, Sr. He is survived by his mother, Jennette Briggs of Fort Worth, Texas; daughter, Tara Elrod and husband, Justin, of Azle, Texas, and their children, Kylee, Austin, Preston, Skyler and Kinley; his sister, Brenda Schimpf and husband, Rex, of Arlington Texas and their son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren; his brother, Randy Briggs and wife, Michele, of Reno Texas, and their children and grandchildren; cousin, Leslie Briggs of Oklahoma; and many other family members and friends. Philip wished to be cremated and did not wish to have a burial service. The family wishes to have a private memorial to remember their son, father and grandpa. Prayers and condolences have been felt and heard, and the family thanks everyone who has reached out and offered their love and support.
