Theodore (Ted, Teddy) Smith was born on a snowy day 67 years ago on February 10th to Andrew (from Chicago, Illinois) and Winifred (Winter) Smith (from Schulenburg).
After graduating from Bishop Forest High School in 1976, he worked as a mechanic (and you couldn’t find many better than he was) for may years including for Caterpillar at Mustang Tractor in Houston. He also had his own businesses for many years. He fixed up many old cars or hot rods through the years. He loved car shows and could explain to you the inner workings of each car’s engine.
Ted overcame many challenges in life and always seemed to make the best of things and enjoyed life’s simple pleasures like a good meal (or a Shiner) with family or friends and time at the beach or in the mountains. He lived many years in Oklahoma and Arkansas and spent some time in Missouri but recently lived in the Dallas/Fort Worth area near his sister.
Ted always enjoyed keeping in shape, lifting weights and for the last ten years riding a bike for 15-20 miles a day.
Ted passed on April 10, 2025, from complications after a heart attack. He will be missed by many as he always made time to help a friend or a neighbor.
He is survived by his older brother, Karl Smith of Missouri, Colorado and Texas; his younger sister, Anna Smith Boyd and husband, Joe; niece, Lacie Smith; nephew, Greg Smith and wife, Sherry; a grand-nephew, Riley; a grand-niece, Madison and a great-grand-nephew, Ledger.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Tatyana (Tanya) (from Russia).
Visitation will be at the Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home in Schulenburg, Texas on Tuesday, April 15th from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. and there will be a graveside service for friends and family at Old High Hill Cemetery on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at 2:00 P.M.
