Vernon Alvin Newby, 77, passed peacefully in his home on Saturday, September 28, 2024 in Springtown.
Graveside Service: 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 2, 2024 in Springtown Cemetery.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at White's Funeral Home Chapel in Springtown.
Vernon was a devoted husband of 55 years to Glenda, father to Stacey, Rusty and Randy, grandfather, called "Poppy" to Tabitha, Nicholas, A.J., Elizabeth, Leah, Daniel, and Timothy and great-grandfather to Karson and Maycee. He is also survived by his sisters, Kathy Hufstedler and Brenda Purser.
Vernon was born July 3rd, 1947. He married Glenda in 1969, while they both attended the University of North Texas. He was born in and was a lifelong resident of Springtown, Texas. He graduated from Springtown High School and later the University of North Texas. He loved family, music and teaching.
Vernon was a laborer and manager for most of his life. He worked in many areas of customer service and retail and earned certification in HVAC and electrical. He was proud of graduating with his bachelor's degree and his second career as a teacher. Vernon continually reinvented himself throughout the seasons of his well-lived life. Vernon mentored, entertained and adopted many "extra children" and touched countless hearts. Besides his own children and grandchildren, his greatest pride was in the success and mentorship of young minds and hearts.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, brother and two brothers-in-law.
