Vivian Gail Smith, 95, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at Holland Lake Nursing Facility. She is now in heaven, pain free, with her Lord. Vivian was born to Letha and George Reh on a farm in Bennington, Kansas on November 6, 1924. She had two older brothers who both served in WWII. Bob was killed while in the Philippines, and Mike died in an automobile accident. Her family raised cattle and grew wheat on the family farm. As a child, Vivian attended a one room school house in the country. She and her brother Mike drove to school in a cart pulled by a pony. When they were older, they drove into town to attend public school. Upon graduation, Vivian attended business school and afterwards worked in Salina, Kansas. In 1952, she met her future husband, Neal Smith, from Lubbock, Texas. They were married after a short romance and she returned to Lubbock with him to begin their married life. After first daughter Nancy was born, they were transferred to Austin where a second daughter, Lynda, was added to the family. Their next move was to Houston where they lived until retirement. Afterwards, they moved to Carrollton and then to Weatherford where they have lived for the past nineteen years. Vivian loved cooking excellent meals for her family and friends, shopping with her daughters, traveling with Neal and friends, and visits from grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She liked miniature horses and birds of all kinds, especially hummingbirds. Vivian and Neal belonged to the First Baptist Church in Weatherford. They were active in the Open Door Sunday School Class. After her health declined, Vivian became homebound for two years. She spent the past three years at the Holland Lake Nursing Facility where she was known as the main source of chocolate and sweets for the staff. Throughout her disability, Vivian displayed grace and courage and her strong belief in God. Vivian and Neal were Blessed with sixty-seven years of marriage and their love for each other was still evident to all who knew them. She was a beloved wife, mother, Grammy, aunt and friend.
