William (Bill) Arthur Hix

November 8, 1939 — October 7, 2017

William (Bill) Arthur Hix, 77, of Weatherford, flew to the arms of Jesus, Saturday, October 7, 2017, at home.  He was surrounded by love and family, including his wife of 61 years, Peggy, and his five children, Vonnie, Beverly, Tanya, Teresa, and Winky (William Arthur Hix, II).  During his lifetime, Bill was lovingly called by many names:  husband, father, dad, daddy, pops, Bigdad, brother, uncle, and friend.The family will receive visitors Friday, October 13, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at White's Funeral Home, 130 Houston Avenue in Weatherford.  Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 14, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Weatherford, corner of Palo Pinto and Alamo Streets.Memorials:  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to either the Texas Baptist Men's Disaster Relief Fund: http://www.texasbaptistmen.org/Ministries/Disaster-Relief or the Asana Hospice Make a Wish Fund:  http://www.asanahospice.com/Bill was born November 8, 1939 in Sherman, Texas to William Jarvis and Ida Faye Anderson Hix.  He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force as an aviation medic from 1957 to 1963.  After his military service, Bill honed his entrepreneurial skills and successfully grew serveral businesses.  While employed as a DJ at KSCS radio station, he obtained a computer science degree.  He was employed by University Computing Company in Dallas, where he enjoyed a successful tenure and was granted numerous awards for his innovative computer programming skills.  Ultimately, he retired from the Fort Worth Independent School District as Director of Information Services.  During his successful computer career, he wrote in computer languages predating Microsoft and Apple.Faithful members of the First Baptist Church of Weatherford for 27 years, Bill and Peggy served as Bible Study Directors for over a decade, in The Open Door Bible study class.  Bill was famous for the elaborate breakfasts he served every Sunday morning.  Former Sunday School members fondly remember his homemade biscuits and sausage gravy.An intellectual, Bill had a genius IQ and was a member of MENSA.  However, he was happiest writing his award-winning gospel songs and compiling his much-sought-after cookbooks and manuscripts of terse tidbits and shrewd wisdom.  He was a passionate reader and word-game enthusiast who passed that love on to his family.  He would finish the NY Times crossword - in red ink - in minutes flat.  He was appreciated for his sense of humor, his puns and jokes eliciting both chuckles and groans from his kids and grandkids.  He loved gardening, yard work, the outdoors, and heaping attention on his dogs, but his greatest legacy was the love he had for his wife and children.He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, James Thomas Hix.Bill is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Peggy LaVerne Hix; adult children, Vonnie and Jim Shallenberger, Beverly Helton and Neal Grandstaff, Tanya and Baron Lukas, Teresa and Dennis Kathcart, Winky and Laurie Hix; brothers, Joe Wayne Hix and Steven Jarvis Hix; sister, Jerry Fay Kline; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
