William "Pat" Bailey

August 13, 1950 — August 28, 2019

William “Pat” Bailey passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 in Fort Worth, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.  Service: 2 p.m., Saturday, September 7, 2019 at North Side Baptist Church in Weatherford.  As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to Community Hospice of Texas or St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Pat was born on August 13, 1950 in Hillsboro, to parents Forrest and Marie Hamilton Bailey, who both preceded him in death.  Pat was also preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Bailey White; brother-in-law, Bob White; and sister-in-law, Pattie Willis Bailey.  Pat grew up in the small country town of Itasca, and developed a deep love of the outdoors and the cowboy way of life.  In recent years, he enjoyed spending time at his ranch in Springtown.  Pat was also an avid gun collector and treasured reading Louis L’Amour books.  Pat never left home without his cowboy hat, starched shirt, jeans and cowboy boots. And a gun or two. Pat began his career in 1971 as a DPS Trooper for the State of Texas.  His law enforcement service later included Chief Deputy Sheriff in Bosque County and Private Investigator for Hillsboro District Attorney’s Office.  As a graduate of Tarleton State University, Pat received his Bachelor of Applied Arts and Science in May, 1979.  After his law enforcement career, Pat joined Lockheed Martin/Fort Worth and worked in several positions. After 25 years, Pat retired as a Project Manager for the F-16 Asian Program. Pat (Pooh-Paw) was a devoted grandfather and delighted in sharing his love of the outdoors with his granddaughters through fishing, attending rodeos and teaching them how to shoot.   He also enjoyed attending their sporting events, birthday celebrations and dance recitals. Pat was a member of North Side Baptist Church and the Grace Sunday School Class.  Pat is remembered for his generous heart, big laugh and bigger hugs, calling all the ladies “Darlin’” and endless storytelling.   No matter the subject, Pat had a larger-than-life tale and 99.9% was true. Pat is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Sharon, who he married on September 26, 2003; his children, Leslie Bailey Smith and husband, Christopher, of Austin, Clint Bailey and fiancé, Chrissy Russell, of Midland, Allison Bailey Shultz and husband, Ryan, of Katy; step-children, Traci Hall and husband, Terry, of Ponder, and Troy Mars and wife, Paula, of Weatherford; grandchildren, Ashley Hall, Alexa Hall, Emma Mars, Avery Mars, Olivia Mars, Anna Claire Bailey, Madeline “Maddie” Shultz and Marley Smith; brother, John Lee Bailey; sister, Angie Bailey Bewley; brother-in-law, Jack Howell and wife, Toni; and many other beloved family members. Pat will be greatly missed by his loving family and many life-long friends.
