Wally was born on August 3, 1940, in Stuttgart, Germany, to Walter and Leni Kunath. They migrated to the United States in 1951 and settled in Chicago, Illinois. Wally grew up an only child but in 1957 met his high school sweetheart, Bonnie, married in 1965 and immediately gained four brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law. He loved the friendship of a large family, traditions, and special celebrations. Wally served in the Air Force from 1959-1965. He received higher education from IIT Technical Institute and the University of Illinois in Chicago. He dedicated his career to AT&T for 27 years before retiring and enjoying the fruits of his labor. As a servant leader and follower of Jesus Christ, Wally loved his faith and touched the hearts of many. He was ordained a deacon on May 21, 1977, in Chicago. He was a catechism teacher for many years, a 4th-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, served in prison, hospital, and nursing home ministries, and was a Deacon of the Catholic Church for 45 years. Wally always had a big sense of humor. There wasn’t a room that he didn’t enter without a smile and some silly wit. He also had a love for motorcycles and sports, which included football and golf. Wally was also the ultimate handyman. He had skills to fix just about anything related to electricity, plumbing, mechanical, and carpentry. Bonnie never had to call for outside help. Wally is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Leni Kunath, and his granddaughter, Irelyn Elizabeth Hasty. He is survived by his wife and love of 57 years, Bonnie Kunath; and their children Eric Kunath (Ana) of Fort Worth, Gwen Hasty of Weatherford, Perrin Kunath (Wendy) of North Richland Hills, and Marrika Schumann (Kyler) of Keller.
