Jane Audrey Baker Zellers

April 1, 1925 — May 22, 2016

WEATHERFORD -- Jane Audrey Zellers died May 22, 2016, in Weatherford, Texas. Funeral: 10:00 a.m., Friday at East Greenwood Cemetery. A Memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Grace First Presbyterian Church. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday at White's Funeral Home. Memorials: The family requests that donations in Jane's memory be made to Manna Storehouse or to the Memorial Fund of Grace First Presbyterian Church, Weatherford, Texas. Jane was born April 1, 1925 in Wilmington, Delaware, to Walter and Myrtle Morgan Baker. She grew up and attended school in Delaware City schools graduating from Delaware City High School. As Jane was graduating, World War II was in full force and Jane joined in the war effort, going to work as a telephone operator at Fort Dupont, Delaware. It was there that she met her beloved “Zell” (Austin Zellers) who was, at that time, stationed at nearby Fort Belvoir. Jane and Austin married August 10, 1946, in Delaware. Not long after their marriage, Jane and Austin moved to Austin, Texas, to attend the University of Texas. Austin Zellers graduated from the University of Texas and went on to attend the University of Texas School of Law. After his graduation from law school, Jane and Austin returned to Weatherford, where they made their home the rest of their lives. A cradle roll member of her small Presbyterian Church in Delaware, Jane and Austin became members of First Presbyterian Church in Weatherford (later to become Grace First Presbyterian Church) soon after their return to Texas. In her married life, Jane was a devoted wife, a loving mother to her two children, Lynn and Ed and a gracious friend and hostess to the circle of lifelong friends she and her beloved husband shared. During her years as a homemaker, Jane taught Sunday School and was an active member of the PTA and the Weatherford Garden Club where she shared both her artistic eye and love of gardening. After Austin's untimely death in 1975, Jane turned her focus outward toward her community. She became part owner and a long time dedicated employee of Weatherford Parker County Abstract Company where she, for years, helped families close transactions to move into their new homes. During these years, Jane continued her faithful membership in Grace First Presbyterian Church, teaching Sunday School, serving as an elder, a mentor to young church members preparing for confirmation, and serving on numerous other ministries in the church. Jane cultivated a circle of much loved friends with whom she shared travel and good times together. Following her retirement from the Abstract Company, Jane's boundless energy turned toward volunteer work in her community. Jane gave countless hours at Manna Storehouse and Campbell Memorial Hospital as a warm and welcoming volunteer to assist others in times when they most needed care and reassurance. Jane was, to all her knew her - whether briefly as she served them or for a lifetime as a devoted friend - a warm and gracious woman full of life and deeply faithful to her Lord. Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Austin E. Zellers, of Weatherford. Jane is survived by her sister, Shirley Crompton, of Wilton Manor, Delaware; her children, Lynn Zellers Matthys and husband, Erick Todd Matthys of Austin; Walter (“Ed”) Zellers and wife, Cathy Zellers, of Weatherford; four beloved granddaughters, Sara Trantham and husband, Austin, of Austin, Texas; Julia Parma and husband, Greg, also of Austin, Texas; Claire Varnon and husband, Richard, of Weatherford; and Caitlin Zellers of Austin, Texas; and five treasured great grandchildren, Tom and Campbell Trantham; Alexandria and Miles Parma of Austin; and Charlotte Austin Varnon of Weatherford.
