Earl began life in poverty living for years in an abandoned cook shack in rural Oklahoma where water was brought from a mile away and a nearby creek was used for bathing. He left home at age 12 and while seeking work was taken in by John and Cleo Kimble who became his surrogate family. Earl joined the Navy at 17 after completing the tenth grade, then finished high school by correspondence. After receiving a congressional appointment, Earl attended the Naval Academy Prep School then finishing college at Oklahoma A&M through ROTC. After college he served three years as an Air Force pilot and then attended law school at the University of Texas. Earl and Barbara married in 1972, moving to Weatherford in 1984. He loved the Lord Jesus and gave God all the credit for lifting him up out of his impoverished roots. You could always see Earl at North Side Baptist Church, Christian Men’s Fellowship or the weekly Bible study at his office. He loved Barbara for all their 49 years together. He taught his children young to know the Lord, to take care of family, work hard and serve others. Earl so enjoyed just helping other people, even a stranger. He treasured time with family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Earl King is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Phil King, Di Ann Towson, Doug King, Donna Gibson and Mike Franklin; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, LeRoy King and Dean King.
